Step 1 — Build the Base
Step 2 — Build the Floor Frame
Assemble the 2×4 floor framing with the JF-1, JF-2, and BK-1 members as shown. Secure the framing, then check that the assembly is square, level, and properly aligned before installing the floor sheathing.
Step 3 — Install the Floor Sheathing
Install the 3/4" APA-rated structural plywood panel (PL-1) over the completed floor frame. Align the panel with the framing and secure it according to the plans.
Step 4 — Build the Wall Frames
Assemble the wall framing using the 2×2 studs, plates, headers, and blocking shown in the plans. Position each frame on the floor assembly and verify the openings and overall alignment before fastening.
Step 6 — Install Wall and Roof Sheathing
Install the exterior plywood panels (PL-2, PL-3, and PL-4) over the wall framing, followed by the roof sheathing (PL-5, PL-6, and PL-7). Keep all panels properly aligned and securely fastened to the framing.
Step 7 — Build the Front Pergola
Assemble the pergola framing using the 2×4 header, 2×2 studs, and joists shown in the plans. Align the members carefully and secure them with exterior-grade fasteners and wood adhesive.
Step 8 — Install the Roof Sheathing
Install the 5/8" structural OSB panels (PL-8 and PL-9) over the roof framing. Align the panels with the framing and leave the required expansion gaps before securing them.
Step 9 — Install Roof Flashing
Install the metal drip edge flashing (FG-1 through FG-4) along the roof edges. Ensure the flashing is properly aligned and positioned to help direct water away from the roof and wall surfaces.
Step 10 — Install Asphalt Shingles
Install the asphalt shingles (AS-1 and AS-2) over the roof sheathing and underlayment, starting from the lower roof edge and working upward. Maintain proper alignment and overlap to ensure effective water shedding.
Step 11 — Install the Door Frame
Install the 3/8" pine lattice trim around the entry opening to cover the exposed plywood edges. Secure the trim with brad nails or trim screws, then seal and finish as desired.
Step 12 — Apply the Exterior Finishes
Apply the exterior wood stain to the plywood and siding, followed by exterior spar urethane for added moisture and UV protection. Finish the exposed framing, base, and trim with exterior-grade matte black paint.
