STEP 1: Base Support
Place the three PT-1 pressure-treated beams on a level surface, following the layout and dimensions shown in the plans. Ensure they are properly aligned and supported.
STEP 2: Floor Framing
Assemble the floor frame using the JF-1, JF-2, BK-1, and BK-2 members. Secure all components according to the layout shown in the plans.
STEP 3: Floor & Bottom Plates
Install the floor panel and secure the BP-1, BP-2, BP-3, and BP-4 bottom plate components according to the plan layout.
STEP 4: Wall Framing
Assemble and install the wall framing using the ST-1, TP-1, TP-2, and BR-1 components, following the layout and dimensions shown in the plans.
STEP 5 — Install Interior Panels
Install the interior plywood panels over the framed walls, securing them to the wall studs. Ensure the panels are properly aligned and fit tightly around corners and openings.
STEP 6 – Roof Framing
Install the roof rafters and supporting framing members, ensuring they are properly aligned and securely fastened to create a solid structure for the roof panels.
STEP 7 – Exterior Wall Panels
Install the exterior wall panels over the completed framing, keeping the sheets properly aligned and securely fastened. If desired, add insulation between the wall studs before installing the exterior panels to improve thermal comfort inside the dog house.
STEP 8 – Roof Panel Installation
Install the roof panels over the completed roof framing, ensuring they are properly aligned and securely fastened. Check that all panel edges are well supported and leave the roof ready for the underlayment and shingles.
STEP 9 – Asphalt Shingles & Ridge Cap
Install the asphalt shingles over the roof panels, working upward in overlapping courses. Finish the roof by installing the ridge cap along the peak to provide a weather-resistant seal.
STEP 10 – Finishes
Apply the selected exterior finishes to the dog house, including exterior-grade paint, dark walnut wood stain, and a natural wood finish protected with exterior polyurethane, spar urethane, or marine varnish. Finish all exposed surfaces for a durable, weather-resistant result.

Layers are one of the most important organizational tools in AutoCAD. A drawing with poorly organized layers can quickly become difficult to manage, especially as a project grows. Instead of creating layers randomly as you need them, establish a logical layer structure from the beginning. Use consistent layer names Create a naming system that makes the purpose of each layer immediately recognizable. For example:A-WALL — Architectural walls A-DOOR — Doors A-WIND — Windows A-FURN — Furniture A-DIMS — Dimensions A-TEXT — General architectural text A-HATCH — Hatches A-ANNO — Annotations A consistent naming system makes it much easier to find, freeze, isolate, or modify specific elements later. Organize layers by discipline or function For larger projects, consider separating architectural, structural, electrical, plumbing, and other information into logical layer groups. This becomes especially useful when working with consultants or when a drawing contains hundreds of layers. Use colors a...
